Taiwanese-Malaysian couple Mdm Han and Mr Chang are the founders of Black Bean Coffee & Tea.

Their first cafe — located at Ewe Hai Street, the historic quarter of Kuching, Sarawak — opened in 2001 and is still in operation. It is a Kuching establishment, famous among locals as well as a must-stop for tourists.

The original Ewe Hai Street outlet sits fewer than a dozen patrons, and the founders are commonly seen making drinks and serving their delicious brews there.

Mdm Han and Mr Chang have also opened a larger Black Bean at Tabuan Jaya, where they have set up their roastery.

A third outlet, a collaboration with Hock Seng Lee, opened in December 2020 at La Promenade.

The couple still personally roasts all of the brand’s coffee beans every day. All baristas are also trained by Mdm Han and Mr Chang.
